Razzle Dazzle From the Double Wing??!!

Double Wing Gets Tricky

You can play around a hec of a lot with formations and still keep the Double Wing base stuff intact.  I love flexing the DW as it puts defenses in all kinds of mind-bending and rule-breaking dillemas.  One formation we love is "Spread".  We simply flex our TE's into 12-14 yard splits.  We still can run with terrific power from this formation and we also make cover 2 a very bad choice.  Teams often will play a cover three with a soft corner once we start going downtown.  When we see this, we start "hitting them where they aint" which creates some big plays.

Our "hook-and ladder" play is money and though it looks complicated, it is a pretty high percentage play.  Here is a brief description of how it works:

We block-up the pass same as always and use PAP same as always.
Play-side wing-back reverses out of his stance gaining depth and a pitch-relationship for the ladder portion of the play.

The split TE runs a 6 yard hook, catches ball and spins underneath to side-line.  He has the green light to keep ball if pitch is going to be impeded or interfered with.

QB throws ball in rhythm before TE is even turned.

Celebrate
